Different guides of yoga, their style and their benefits:

Hatha means force or willful. Breaking it up, Ha means sun and That means moon representing the masculine and feminen energy we all have within us.. This practice is easiest on joints, it is more choppy in the sense of we start and complete the asanas (postures) rather than flowing into them.

Vinyassa means to place something in a sacred or special way. It is movement between asanas (poses) that form a flowing sequence.

Yin means feminin energy. It a slow paced style of yoga which will hold one asana anywhere from 45 seconds to 5 minutes.

Kundalini means coiled. In Hinduism is a form of divine energy believed to be located at the base of the spine. The style is repetitive sets of postures that include one movement with your in breath and another, normally of opposite direction with you out breath,

Restorative offers relaxed poses to decompress. The moral of the style is to feel comfortable and cozy. Normally holding the poses with blocks, bolsters and blankets. Best to have half restorative, paired with another style of yoga.

What Yoga may be able to do or you:

Yoga is designed to open the main channels of the body. It can improve flexibility and posture, prevent cartilage and joint breakdown (full-range of motion exercises), your bones (weight bearing exercises), protect your spine (spinal disks crave movement), increase blood flow (brings more oxygen to your blood), drain your lymphs and boosts immunity (When you contract and stretch muscles, move organs around, and come in and out of yoga postures, you increase the drainage of lymph.), can improve cardiovascular conditions, drop your blood pressure, regulate your adrenal glands, make you happier (increase in serotonin levels and a decrease in the levels of monoamine oxidase), founds a healthy lifestyle, lowers blood sugar, Helps your focus (regular yoga practice improves coordination, reaction time, memory, and even IQ scores), relaxes your system, improves your balance, maintains your nervous system, releases tension in you limbs, deeper sleeper, boosts immune system functionality, Improves lung health (Yoga also promotes breathing through the nose, which filters the air, warms it (cold, dry air is more likely to trigger an asthma attack in people who are sensitive), and humidifies it, removing pollen and dirt and other things you'd rather not take into your lungs.), increase self-esteem, ease pain, brings awareness for transformation, help with drug addiction and anger, supports your connective tissue, help with depression, anxiety, add/adhd,

Yoga has been practiced for over 5,000 years. Yoga does tone muscles and burn calories, but it is so much more. It's a total mind-body-emotion-spiritual workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing, meditation, observation and letting go.

"The holistic system of yoga was designed so that these emotional breakthroughs can occur safely. Yoga is not merely an athletic system; it is a spiritual system. The asanas are designed to affect the subtle body for the purpose of spiritual transformation. People enter into the practice of yoga asana for physical fitness or physical health, or even because they've heard it's good for relaxation, but ultimately the purpose of yoga practice is spiritual development.Anytime you work with the body, you are also working with the mind and the energy system—which is the bridge between body and mind," -Joan Shivarpita Harrigan, Ph.D. Psychologist

“In yogic terms, there is no separation between mind, body, and spirit. The three exist as a union (one definition of the word yoga); what happens to the mind also happens to the body and spirit, and so on. In other words, if something is bothering you spiritually, emotionally, or mentally, it is likely to show up in your body. And as you work deeply with your body in yoga, emotional issues will likely come to the fore. In the yogic view, we all hold within our bodies emotions and misguided thoughts that keep us from reaching samadhi, defined by some as "conscious enlightenment." Any sense of unease or dis-ease in the body keeps us from reaching and experiencing this state. Asanas are one path to blissful contentment, working to bring us closer by focusing our minds and releasing any emotional or inner tension in our bodies.” -Donna Raskin, writer for Yoga Journal
